In adherence with the executive order of the governor of New Mexico, we have closed to all non-essential business effective March 24. Therefore, all routine elective surgeries (such as spays and neuters and most dentals) as well as wellness visits have been canceled until the expiration of the order on April 10, or until further notice. Per the order, “essential” veterinary services do include emergency services. Therefore, we are currently seeing emergencies as well as sick patients for whom waiting until after April 10 could result in significant worsening of illness.
If you are unsure whether or not your pet is having a medical emergency, please call Dr. Lambden at 575-201-3122 to speak with her. If you have a non-emergent concern, or need refills of a medication for your pet, please email frontdesk@pawinhandvet.com. If you do not have or use email, you may call the regular clinic number (575-434-4343). Leave your name, the patient name, and the refill requested. We will return your call as soon as possible.
New Mexico Board of Veterinary Medicine currently allows telemedicine only in cases in which a patient has been seen by the veterinarian in the past year. If Dr. Lambden has seen and examined your pet within the past 365 days (having vaccines given at vaccine clinics does not qualify as an exam), she may be able to offer telemedicine. Sometimes, a phone call is not sufficient to diagnose a pet and prescribe the appropriate medication, and in that case if the concern is urgent or emergent, a visit will be recommended.
In compliance with public health directives on social distancing to reduce spread of COVID-19, we are asking all pet owners to remain in their vehicles when they arrive for scheduled visits with sick pets. Please call us and we will come out to your car to discuss the patient’s history and collect your pet. If you or a member of your household or anyone with whom you’ve had close contact in the past 10 days is ill or has tested positive for COVID-19, please do not bring your pet in. We can discuss options for appropriately treating your sick pet while protecting our staff from unnecessary exposure to illness.
